Walking hunt is one of the most common type of hunt practised in France. Typically, hunters walk in formation, respecting a straight line for obvious security reasons. Hunt guides or leaders are typically placed in the middle of the line and dogs are usually running in front of the group, seeking for hidden or fallen game. Each time a bird is taken, the group of shooters stops their progression until the fallen bird is retreived by the dogs. When practising walking hunts, it is possible to look for pheasants, red-legged partridges or grey partridges. Pheasants are often found within the forest or around its borders. Red-legged partridges can be found in the forrest or in open fields. Grey partridges, like hare, are found primarily in open fields or agricultural lands.
