Pigeons have been for the longest time the most hunted game in France, along with rabbits. Pigeon hunt is a very typical and ancestral tradition. Shooters are hiding in the forest behind a tree or within more advanced, man-made structures to blend and wait for pigeons to fly over. Pigeons, doves, wood pigeons are very difficult to hunt because they are easily scared and show extreme agility when flying. Hunters tend to look more for woodpigeons (columba palumbus). This species of pigeon is different from others: it is heavier and bigger, with slightly mauve reflects below the neck. Woodpigeons are migratory birds.
