Stalking hunt is a very solitary hunt activity. It is based on the fact that the hunter chases big game and approaches it. Animals are not redirected to the shooter in this type of hunt. Stalking hutns are commonly practiced in France for big game: boars, red deers and roe deers. Once located, the targeted animal(s) is approached by the solitary shooter until reaching a reasonable shooting distance. Hunters must remain silent, pay attention to the direction of the wind and must not be seen or smelt by the animals. Hunters typically take their time, stop often and must be very patient before seeing or even approaching an animal. In stalking hunts, hunters can approach boars, red deers or roe deers. Hunting season for big game varies from small game. Stalking hunts is permitted starting in June for roe deers and September for red deers.
